for real, why do you think people use mental predicates to describe AI? Because they are debatable, defensible, arguable but never verifiable. Its a useless ground on which to build a theory of life and agency. it relies on trust that is always betrayable (see for e.g., the history of psychiatry).

A lot of those criticizing the whole "explain consciousness" thing re: Claude with "well, I have a mind in my head and Claude doesn't" haven't experienced enough disenmindment to understand how useless such claims are. "I have a spirit in my thinkbox". People can just go "no you don't".

if you compare a person you don't like to an LLM, you are using literal dehumanising language; abhorrent (consider that autistic people have had the same objectifying machinic language used against us since forever). But you are also collapsing the distance between humans and LLMs. Just don't 🤷🏻

if you believe in an inherent equality across humanity then it cannot be what we bring into life that moves us closer to or farther from God, the good, or each other; it has to be something we do. So that's how we should approach criticism.
