You cannot trust any statement from DHS and ICE.

The federal government’s official story—which is of course likely a lie—is that DHS killed a guy for simply having a gun. This is the gun rights lobby’s nightmare scenario, and they likely won’t utter a mumbling word of opposition.

This is a white supremacist paramilitary operation. Their goal—their stated goal!—is to force America to submit to the President's racist domineering vision for the country. The sooner everybody starts confronting it on the terms that they themselves have stated, the better.

I would treat any statement from a US government source at this point as about as trustworthy as the Russian government or any other modern authoritarian regime.

What's making me really livid right now is thinking back to the years of commentary lecturing us that the rise of MAGA was rooted in a sense of righteous victimization by overbearing liberal elites, and sneering at those who insisted that it was fundamentally about domination and sadism all along.
