Data centres are energy hungry but what if we could use their waste heat to heat our homes? That's exactly what happens in places like Finland: Cities are tapping the vast amounts of waste heat generated by data centres, and feeding it into district-heating networks.

Department of Defense Law of War Manual, Sec. 18.3.2.1 states the "requirement" to refuse illegal orders. What’s its key example? Wait for it . . . It’s "orders to fire upon the shipwrecked."

Great perspective, I wonder how much the rail industry racked up building in 1800s. 4x the largest energy producer and about the same as the largest oil producer nation at the time?

Honestly insane to think about paying a cartographer in this age. This is how tech reduces employment and cost of living by the same action.

could be a reality today without additional cost to the budget. Congress would need to make a law for this. Not through random tariffs and taxes but by directly issuing from the Fed and raising interest rates to combat inflation. Yes from one to the other hand, but value add happens!

The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.

I support AI, but this is misrepresentation at its finest. There is a clear choir of anguish from having tech wedged into every aspect of life. Tech must be an adoption not an “update”

I don't think this is even controversial, it's standard practice. No interviewer is going through a game's credits looking for a name, and credits aren't seen as a useful way to knot how someone contributed to a project. The expectation is for you to list the work you actually did.

Putin’s plan for Ukrainian surrender does not serve American national interests
Ukrainians and their democratically elected leaders will have to assess how to deal with Putin’s latest 28-point proposal for Ukrainian surrender — sometimes referred to as “Trump’s peace plan.” It’s...

I heard Zohran said "You know what people would love you for, sir, is universal health care and a basic income. They would build statues for you, and the very nasty people would suddenly be nice to you" and Trump said "wait really?" and now they're writing executive orders together

the takeaway from the Zohran Trump meeting is that Trump is a gullible fool who will temporarily bend to the last charismatic person he talked to. Zohran played him perfectly but that doesn’t mean Trump is good now. He’ll go back to fascism tomorrow morning after he talks to Stephen Miller

The amount of people I know who have been laid off from games industry jobs and are deciding to leave games entirely as a result is not only extremely saddening (of course), but also genuinely scary. We have lost legitimately thousands of years of knowledge and experience in the last four years.
