Every crime in which an ethnic or cultural minority is the perpetrator used to justify repression or worse of minorities. Every crime in which a minority is the victim used to argue for the idea that ethnic diversity is inherently unstable and should be reduced or eradicated.

The perpetrator was found guilty of carrying an illegal knife. The murder weapon was a 21cm/8 inch large knife. (So his defence it was lawful to carry due to his Sikh faith rejected as false). He also wore a small ceremonial Kirpan knife around his neck. Media reports seem to conflate these.

We've worked really hard to bring in effective and evidence based policies to reduce deaths and serious injuries on our roads. It's great to see another year of figures that suggest those policies are having a positive impact. There's still a lot more to do, but it's great to see this progress.

The UK was right to recognise the State of Palestine. But recognition means little unless Ministers protect the territorial basis of that state. With E1 tenders opening on 1 June, I’ve urged the Foreign Secretary to make clear UK firms must not aid illegal settlement expansion.

Tempting to write off the Restore polling as sample bias etc. But my feeling is its real Even in Bristol we're encountering them on the doorstep. People coming back from Makerfield think 7% may be a underestimate. They're all over Facebook in particular and showing up in national polls Its real.

My friend and her family are leaving due to the rise in antisemitism and indifference they’ve seen from this country. Disgust, contempt is how I feel towards the cowardice that has allowed this poison to spread. But mostly I’m just sad. We are allowing a community to be hounded out of their home.

I agree. Quite a few self-proclaimed progressives I know keep saying to me, "we are allowed to oppose Israel", and I have to keep reminding them that they wouldn't deem it acceptable to ask Muslims about the Twin Towers when they are sharing experiences of Islamophobia.

Fwiw I don't think protests should be banned. If people are doing illegal things on them they should be arrested under existed laws. Otherwise it's important to protect free speech.

Two local election candidates, for the Green Party in Lambeth, have been arrested on suspicion of stirring up racial hatred. The legal threshold for that is quite high: the Guardian reports some of the content which may cross it

Keeping seeing posts that the "Corbyn playbook" is being used on Polanski. But attacks - whatever the motivation - only work if there is some evidence of a problem. Telegraph et al tried it on Sadiq Khan + it never stuck because there's zero evidence of Khan or those around him being antisemitic.

I worry that the lesson some people on the left learned from Labour's antisemitism problem was not "Let's never do that again" but "It was all a lie, don't worry about it"

It’s a hard thing to say but it’s now obvious: Britain has an antisemitism problem. How deep, widespread and violent it is is something I am not expert enough to know. But I’ve been around here long enough to know that Britain now has an antisemitism problem that didn’t exist when I was younger.

Hi, I have noticed that your trains from Yeovil Pen Mill to Castle Cary will often arrive after a recent train to Paddington from CLC, meaning it is not possible to use Castle Cary for connections to London unless you get significantly earlier trains and wait around.

A short thread about King John. When John died in October 1216, contemporary chroniclers were not kind. ‘He was a very bad man’, said one, ‘more cruel than all others. He lusted after beautiful women and because of this he shamed the high men of the land, for which reason he was greatly hated.' 1/

Trump did not announce a U.S. policy then walk it back. That is not what happened, and media presenting it that way does a disservice. Trump said words he thought might appeal to his audience in the moment, with no connection to actual policy, then did that again with a different question/asker.
