Americans suggesting that LAs here in Britain remove children on a whim is absolutely absurd. The Government simply does not provide adequate funding for children to be taken away in such a manner. It just does not happen. If anything, the complete opposite is true.

There have been a sizeable number of cases- far more than those like the Preston Davey case, where courts have decided that a child should be sent back to live with their birth parents, and they subsequently die as a result. Cases like Preston Davey are unheard of.

I entirely blame television for the misconception that social workers just take away children on a whim. They do not. They will try everything they can to keep families together. There are many cases where children remain in unsuitable and unsafe homes because the threshold is extremely high.
