According to Ukrainian officials, Russian forces unleashed 216 drones across the country, targeting the Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. The latest wave of strikes left at least five people dead and more than 30 wounded, among them four children and a teenager.
The attacks began on the evening of June 4 and continued into the night of June 5, as Russian troops deployed over 200 drones, guided bombs, artillery, and missiles in a coordinated assault. In Zaporizhzhia, local emergency services reported that a Russian drone strike killed one woman and injured 16 others. Three cars and the windows of an apartment building were damaged, and a fire broke out over a 10-square-meter area. Psychologists provided assistance to 16 people, including a child.
In the Kyiv region, emergency workers responded twice in a single day to drone attacks in the Boryspil district. As they worked to put out a fire ignited by the initial strike, Russian forces launched yet another drone attack. The fire was eventually extinguished late in the evening.
The National Police reported that in Sumy region, airstrikes claimed the lives of a 57-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man. Fifteen people were injured, including children aged 1, 2, 9, 11, and 15, along with six women aged 37 to 78, and four men aged 37 to 57. Residential buildings, cars, a store, and infrastructure sites were damaged in the attacks.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian forces targeted four districts more than 15 times with drones and artillery, according to regional head Oleksandr Hanha. In the Pavlohrad district, a woman was killed and two men, aged 74 and 48, were injured. Businesses, private and apartment homes, a gas station, and cars were also hit.
Ukraine’s Air Force stated that on the night of June 5, Russia launched two guided missiles (Kh-59/69) and a total of 216 drones of various types. Air defense systems destroyed or suppressed 198 of the drones, and the guided missiles failed to hit their targets.
Sixteen drone strikes were confirmed in 13 locations, while debris fell in 12 separate areas.
The latest assault comes on the heels of a previous attack on the night of June 4, when Russia launched 293 drones and a ballistic missile at Ukraine. That strike killed and injured civilians in Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv and Donetsk regions, and damaged homes and critical infrastructure.
