coming into this game, my new team ratings system (tktk) had Sunderland as the fourth best defensive team in the league over eight matches which seemed pretty ridiculous and I was like ehhhhhhhhh weird small sample even if they're pretty good today they looked every bit a plus PL defense

The data contains 10 full games of tracking data (at 10fps), SkillCorner's dynamic events and phases of play for those 10 games, and physical aggregate data for midfielders in 175 games. I think that's about as different as it can get, but I might be biased.

@thetransferflow.bsky.social
(Ted is an industry leader and his teachings helped build my career), but it’s hard to ignore that set pieces could really be the difference between the Netherlands ducking out in the RO16 or QFs and challenging as a top 4 team 🇳🇱

Messi is the only MLS player to get to 40 non-penalty, direct goal contributions in a season. Vela in 2019 had 38 (27 non penalty goals & 11 direct assists) Messi 2025 has 41 (26 non Penalty goals & 15 direct assists). He's done this in 6 less games than Vela.

Neel and Patrick flagged them as one of THE teams to keep an eye on. I said the same as a UCL dark horse. Kim does some analysis on how they’ve progressed after major sales. Defense still coming together but their games have had the most goals in the Bundesliga, more than Bayern’s!

I grew up going to 1 MLS match a year for my birthday. I worked in the league for 4 years and have a deep admiration for the resilience of everyone involved in keeping it going. Demand for soccer in the US is growing and MLS must keep its survival roots while appealing to the growing interest.

Pep Guardiola rules because he's not an ideologue, he might be the ultimate pragmatist. He has a theory of the ideal style of football, and he wants to coach it. But when presented with an Erling Haaland, he goes "we should probably get the ball to that guy" and figures out the best way to do that.

Kim crushed these. Grades were done separately and I think the writing does a good job of expressing when the group was aligned v not and why I might have been too negative on Villa (good value for Ramsey) or too positive on Chelsea (got out of deals I was questioning last summer) Time will tell!
