We had a great podcast chat about futi with @sounderatheart.com, where they’ve done some of the most interesting early work with our new team style data.

We went on @thepostcincy.com’s podcast to talk about futi data, our new MLS Daily newsletter and how to be smarter about soccer stats.

Totally chuffed to have an opportunity to do some weekly data storytelling with resources like g+ from @americansocceranalysis.com and Team Tendencies via @futi.live. This week we look at how RSL operated and how one change in offensive positioning ended up as a double-edged sword.

Expected goals are everywhere now, but there's so much more we can do with them. Here's how futi turns basic xG into team-level metrics including deserved results, projected points and projected finish.

I also shamelessly ripped off how @eliotmckinley.com used @futi.live data in his ASA preview of another Ohio team in making the case that maybe we'll be seeing a return to some old Noonan ball in 2026

For @sounderatheart.com I dove into @futi.live Team Tendencies and focused in on Sounders' signature tendency "Patient Possession," and how MLS, and the Western Conference in particular, has been more than edging in that same direction for a couple of seasons now.

Really fun to see how teams' tactical tendency data evolves over time.

Messing around with @futi.live MLS team style data and ASA’s g+, I took a look at the net g+ profiles for the most stylistically extreme teams within each cluster. Teams were selected based on both style score and “purity” - the gap between their primary and secondary stylistic identities.

Playing around with @futi.live organized possession data. In 2025 #MLS play, the Sounders ranked #1 in success rate and 8th in progression phases which @johnspacemuller.com defines as possession sequences where teams advance the ball into threatening areas before a shot or box entry.

This is great 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 We’re very fortunate at FIFA to have access to detailed phases of play that are calculated using the tracking we have and I can’t tell you how much value it adds to our analysis so great to see others tackling this too!
