An early look at Eze in the '10' role
Some people thought when he signed that he might just take this position and make it his, let's see how the early returns are going.

New Cannon Stats Podcast: Arsenal Drop Points but Give Us Reasons for Optimism A nice chat about the Sunderland match, both of us feel more positive about Arsenal after that match even though it wasn't the result we wanted or really deserved.

This is Liverpool's first loss by 3 goals in the Premier League since 2023-04-01. They lost that one 4-1 also against Manchester City.

This was asked in the CannonStats discord, here is how things stand now based on how the result of this City vs Liverpool match goes. Either team winning isn't something that changes really for Arsenal (obviously changes for that team). A draw the best for Arsenal but that doesn't look likely.

For the first half yesterday by my calculations the ball in play time was just 23 minutes. A very start stop match and it was very much the type of disruption that Sunderland wanted. Arsenal were much better in the second half to impose their style on the match.

Granit Xhaka, Performance Arsenal did a good job to not let the ex-Arsenal man do much or really impact the game here. His only "highlight" was yelling at Merino after he fouled him and bringing back that even though his reputation was rehabbed after leaving, why I often disliked him at Arsenal

If Arsenal were chasing the game late I’d be more open to the bench was light stuff. Arsenal had plenty of midfield and defensive depth there with White, Lewis-Skelly, Hincapie, Mosquera, Norgaard available. Only 1 got one.

Saka had looked like he was playing within himself quite a bit since coming back from injury. Here he looked much more like THE GUY we want and know he can be. He put the team on his back in the second half.

This Spurs vs United match could maybe use some long throws to change it up a bit for how this is ruining the sport. At least that would give a bit more penalty box action.

They were a tough team to read coming up but the expectations were pretty low, they have blown them out of the water to start the season. Just how good are Arsenal's next opponents?

An early look at Eze in the '10' role - He's not Odegaard but he's doing it in his own way. There is room for improvement and as he adapts I am sure we will see it. Let's dig into the stats here.

Here's a fun stat: Sunderland have spent just 15th most minutes winning this season but have the 4th most wins They have the highest share of minutes drawing and have excelled in the close matches. With the game tied, they don't create much but they give away very little as well.

No team in the Premier League has won more points after falling behind than Sunderland. They have seen their opponents take a lead 6 times and have turned that into an impressive 2-2-2 record. They are tied (with Arsenal) for points per time falling behind with 1.33

It took 16 points to finish in the top 8 last year. 18 points was good enough for 5th. Arsenal’s 19 was good enough for 3rd. Arsenal are at 12 here after today’s win. This win went a long way to securing the bye.

I think that this is probably as close to the happy medium of rotation and going strong. Not that many choices in attack so that’s something that basically picks itself. This changes 2/3 of the midfield and that’s a lot. 1 change at the back is fine. I’m excited to see Hincape at LB
