Given the fascistic attacks on trans people, migrants, women, disabled folks etc, talking about “free speech” in abstract terms without confronting our political reality just enables bigotry to thrive. Bad faith actors use “free speech” to bully marginalised people. We must refuse this intimidation.

We need to do the same here too. Infant surgery to correct perceived defects in sexual development will often cause greater harm without knowing the gender of the child. Physical appearance is not an indicator of gender yet is allowed to be changed without considering this important aspect.

Let’s be louder than his hate today. Let’s honor those we lost by defending science, protecting care, and standing with the LGBTQ+ community and everyone affected by HIV/AIDS. We owe it to history, and to each other, to never go backward.

When I found out that I'm intersex I knew, statistically, there were lots of other people like me out there, but only about a dozen were publicly visible. It has been a great joy to me to watch this movement grow over the decades and begin to exert real pressure for our human rights to be respected.
