This whole scheme is designed to sell people benefits that don’t exist and never will, just to get them to adopt it. In the end, it’s a Labour plan to make carrying IDs mandatory right before the next election.

I know someone who used to know Ms Phillimore in both a professional *and* a personal capacity, and didn't have a single good word to say about her. And that's all I'm willing to share.

The whole deal with ID cards, or any legislation, isn't that they wouldn't have advantages under a fair and stable government*, it's that a fair and stable government isn't guaranteed. Once something like this is legislated, it's there for anyone to abuse.
