This reply on Twitter from Roisin Murphy seems to me to be the kind of thing a sociopath or a sadist might say. In what world is it ok for trans women to be raped and killed simply because they have been given a prison sentence?

The subtext of this comment by Murphy isn't really that trans women deserve abuse in prison for breaking the law, because cis women who break the law are deemed worthy of protection, no matter their crime. The subtext is trans women deserve rape, abuse, even death as a punishment for being trans.
