A new oversight report on 2025 jail deaths underscores an overall pattern of noncompliance with basic safety protocols on Rikers Island and a lack of urgency when responding to medical emergencies. The cycle of death and negligence at Rikers must stop - it's time to close the jail for good.

BREAKING: ICE unlawfully arrested E.J.C.C., a 16-year-old Bronx high schooler with protective SIJ status. ICE agents illegally detained him when he appeared for a mandatory, routine check in. Now, ICE is attempting to deport him to dangerous conditions in Ecuador. We are filing for his release.

Since day one, the Trump administration had no legitimate reason to detain Mahmoud Khalil. The law is on our side: Ideas are not illegal, and government officials can't weaponize a vague immigration law to incarcerate or remove people for expressing opinions they don't like.

Deploying ICE to terrorize people is dangerous, reckless, and yet another abuse of power by the Trump administration. Immigrants are New York. Militarized ICE agents do not keep this city safe, and they have no place in our streets.
