As a European I've never really understood the "need" for tactical gear at fur cons. Haven't seen much here, but really doesn't sit right with me that people essentially do military LARP at cons full of minorities. Like, don't you guys already have sites, cons & gun ranges to meet up at?

This should be global rule for all furcons, should've been for ages Who and why the fuck would anyone think weirdo (negative) larping as cops or PMCs is cool to do, ESPECIALLY in current times

I was at VancouFur 2023 when it got swatted. Officers with assault rifles and full tactical gear screaming at attendees to get out, herding us along the highway. If there'd been folks with tactical gear and fake guns with armed cops primed to expect threats... It could have been very bad.

FWA also implemented a similar policy for this year’s con. I’m not trying to upstage BLFC or anything, I’m glad they made that call in wake of the tragedy. But seeing people say “more cons need to do this”. And well….hi! lol.

Two thoughts... 1) This should be the baseline policy for all furry cons. 2) 30 years isn't far enough. SWAT teams proliferated in the 80s as part of the War on Drugs, and the militarization of US police really took off in the 90s. It should probably be pre-WW2 if you want to prevent most problems.
