If youβre anxious about the aurora because βwe didnβt use to have the Northern Lights this far south,β donβt be! The sunβs just doing a normal solar cycle like usual. We just now have cameras in our pocket that can detect aurora, and social media to spread the word to get out looking!

Iβll say this much: This reads exactly like what it is: people who discovered romance five years ago and decided they had all kinds of amazing new ideas to βfixβ it. Connections between books? That feel kind of cozy to the reader? How did no one ever think of that??

Thinking a lot about how poorly our brains recognize long term subtle changes, like climate change or biodiversity loss. We've lost something like 1 out of every 4 individual birds in the US since 1970, more for some species. There should be at least 25% more birds around you right now.

Perhaps one of the best things about aurora photos is everyone has a different view of it, and so all the images are unique and, to me, that makes them all amazing. It also feels like aurora sort of flattens the otherwise steep astrophotography curve.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes. The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last. The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes. Why? It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

One more skeet for Edmund Fitzgerald Day. Behind this historical marker is the famed Whitefish Bay. Today the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in Paradise, Mich., rang the recovered bell 31 times, 29 for the victims of the wreck, once for all Great Lakes shipwreck victims, and once for Gordon Lightfoot.
