Never forget that they had to spend trillions of dollars, build massive data centers, consume millions of galloons of water and insane amounts of electricity, just to kind of do what you can do better with your imagination and a cup of coffee. That's how envious they are of what you can do.

My god these articles are all so stupid. No, it could not be. That is not how it works. Your computer is not talking to you.

Probably more helpful to think of them not so much as “Canadian wildfires” but rather “climate change wildfires currently consuming Canada”

If you downloaded the 5.0.12 update for Mac earlier and it didn't work, you should be able to do so now. There was an issue with the release build of one of the third-party libraries Fade In uses. I hate computers.

Sorry this latest update has taken so long to get out. There were a lot of little Just One More Things on the Just One More Thing list. If there's something you've been waiting for that I promised "It's on the way!", you can check the list:

I swear I'm turning into Lloyd Dobler. I don't want to sell anything to anybody. I don't want anybody to sell anything to me. I think I look good in this trench coat, somebody tell Diane this boombox is getting heavy, and Joe, man, you gotta leave that poor girl alone.

What? An "AI" company violating the copyright and intellectual property rights of individual creators who neither licensed nor gave permission for the use of their work? That's so unusual and has never once happened before!

If Warner Bros. merges with Paramount, the combined company would become the largest employer of writers. Both companies are already industry giants and the loss of head-to-head competition will directly impact writers at every level as well as the pipeline for emerging writers.

People above a certain age are probably the easiest marks for "AI" because for a long time they've already believed their computer is talking to them.

Not one highly talented creative person I know burst onto the scene fully bloomed. Talent helps, sure. Talent provides a bit of an edge, and confidence, and sustains interest especially early on when most people might be tempted to quit trying. But at some point it's 100% effort, every day.

It's also worth noting that when people insist "it's only trained on our data" that is probably something they either (a) misunderstand, or (b) are lying about. The *massive* amount of data is the only thing that make generative "AI" do anything at all, and there simply isn't enough of *your* data.

This is why "AI" as the popular umbrella term for any processing a computer does with data is meaningless. The ML tools used in medical research are not the chatbots and deepfake porn generators made by the "AI" companies, as much as they'd desperately like us all to believe they're the same thing.

A bit more evidence for the idea we're moving, fairly rapidly, into a post-literate age; mix of poor education, attention span deficits and short form video killing out literacy. This is a very, very bad thing.

This to me is one of the defining features of "AI" as a product: people fucking hate it. Yes, some may choose to use it. Yes, some may be forced to use it. But overall it's synonymous with "shit" and people hate it. I can't think of any product ever that succeeded against those odds.

Something I don't understand about using "AI" even to draft an email is why would you so readily let anyone else — much less a computer — put words in your mouth?
