An underappreciated CPTSD recovery hack is to create. Create anything. Art, music, food. It doesn't have to be objectively "good," or objectively anything-- just create. Make. Generate. Creativity oils every aspect of our recovery work. It literally reanimates our brain & heart.

Having recently had to do this (leave employment to do what’s best for my mental health), yes, it is a financial hardship. But the cost of trying to make my brain work in a way it just couldn’t was much too high.

There is zero shame in having to shift or reduce your workload to focus on managing or healing CPTSD. Yes, that can come w/ economic & logistical hardships, & that absolutely sucks-- but there's no shame in it. It's not a "failure." You are not "bad" or "stupid" or "lazy."

Nobody who is judging your CPTSD symptoms or recovery from the outside could possibly conceive of the commitment & courage you need to muster every day to face this. Their opinions are not valid & their judgments are not relevant. Recovery focus. All day.

You should probably also not go to IKEA this weekend. You’re welcome.

Freddy Mercury died of AIDS 33 years ago today. With modern medical technology, he likely would have lived. Never forget how much progress against major infectious disease has been made in a short time. We are at risk now of rolling back much of that progress.

My letter carrier handed me my mail today & asked, "Are you the Michelle Hebert who wrote a book?" I told him I am. He said, "I saw an article about it and recognized your name and went out to get it! I'm so excited to know a real author!" I am a very famous author on this particular cul-de-sac 😂

Seems like the appropriate time to take this one out of my To Be Read pile.

Happy “ooo extra hour of sleep" but actually "ugh extra hour of tossing and turning” morning to all who celebrate

A little trick or treater asked if he could pat my dog. Then he spotted my cat and slid past me to pat him. He saw cat#2 on the sofa and yelled "You have a lot of cats!". By this time he's running through the living room & his mother is begging him to go back outside.

This little cutting from my late mother's Christmas cactus is blooming, even though the main plant hasn't bloomed in years. I'm taking it as a very hopeful sign.
