Today we celebrate the birthday of American comic book writer Jerry Siegel, born today in 1914. The co-creator of Superman with his friend Joe Shuster, both were inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1993. #JerrySiegel

The term "graphic novel" was actually coined by Richard Kyle in 1964. For is entire life Will Eisner was certainly the "Champion of the GN!" The first GN was actually created by a caveman some years before that.

Five years ago today on a street in San Diego at a handoff in front of the Comic-Con offices I got my Eisner Award. That was the height of the pandemic and times were strange. But it felt great then (and still does) to have this honored award on my shelf.
