We have an author visit today which means getting up extra early to get some colouring done before we go. Luckily it’s fairly local so won’t affect our comic page quota too much.

It can be a long road indeed to pitch and find an agent. And then once you have an agent there’s more hoops to jump through to find a publisher. Making and selling your own comic regardless is quicker but equally difficult.

A UK Comics Fund would be amazing. Funding from organisations is increasingly difficult to access, and comics have been underfunded for decades (or should we say, hardly funded at all until fairly recently).

We just filled the UK Comics Creator Survey. This survey is so important! Comics need a better infrastructure and support. To do this, understanding the comics community is one of the most important things.

Why are they still banning books in 2025? Graphic novels are seen as a threat because they are so effective. LGBTQ+ is seen as a threat because it undermines the Patriarchy. The Patriarchy has been oppressing women and minorities for centuries, and it needs to be gotten rid of.

Here's a UK report of the Graphic Novel market: they hit an all-time high of £20.2m in 2024; on course to obliterate that in 2025. Manga has 56.9% of total GN sales. Would be interesting to know what % of all kids & YA book sales is taken up by GNs & manga. www.thebookseller.com/bestsellers/...

Do you have to re-install all the programs?

Question: has anyone upgraded to Windows 11 recently? Is it easy and hastle free ? Windows 10 is no longer supported from October and we haven’t upgraded yet, as we didn’t want to disturb things in the middle of a project.

Procreate gang: is there a non video set of instructions somewhere that explains how to a) change the dpi of a procreate image and separately b) trace in procreate - ie create a knocked-back/low opacity layer from an image so it's like using tracing paper? THANK YOU ALL!

It’s such a relief when you get a bunch of pages that are really quick to colour.

Just finished watching The Legacy. It’s a master class in character development! The ending is an apotheosis, the message is that money has the potential to destroy people, while art has the power to transform and unite them. Highly recommended.

Hooked on Danish series, now we’ve been watching The Legacy. It’s pure soap, Bergman style. Top acting and you get swept into high drama! It reminds us at times of Fanny and Alexander, but modern and commercial.

It’s not the usual kind of storytelling. It does have a beginning, middle and end, and events enhancers and such, but they are not plot driven, they’re emotional. You could also say it’s about the meaning of life in all its mundanity.
