An Asda shop was quickly aborted when Simon H-Roberts found a fine Drake Bufflehead at the Foryd Bay, Caernarfon today. 45 minutes later and I was watching this superb Yank duck. There’s been no sign of the Baikal Teal since the 4th apart from an apparent erroneous report on the 5th. Really impressed with visiting birders re no access beyond tank teeth… until today 😡 Seems like some people feel they can just do what they like. Complete flush of duck and gulls along shore! 🤬

Decided to give the Van a run out this morning & despite the horrendous traffic jam on the M49 I managed to see the tiny Eurasion Scops Owl at Killay thanks to some very kind & helpful local folk. Unfortunately the Bufflehead seems to have gone & no news today of the Eastern Black Redstart at Filey.

The Bridging Camp Desert Wheatear only ventured off base a couple of times yesterday morning.

Cracking day on patch at Littlesea, The Fleet. Highlight was finding a ♀️ Desert Wheatear in Bridging Camp. ♀️ Long-tailed Duck, 2 Slavonian Grebes & singles of Atlantic Brent Goose, Whimbrel & Water Rail, plus a Harbour Seal made up the rest of the highlights.

I was pleased to find this ♀ Lesser Scaup today at Helston boating lake. (5th Nov). A ♂ was found here yest. Both ♂ and ♀ upper wing pics show the secondary and primary wing bar pattern. Lesser Scaup is annual in Cornwall. A flock of 10 were found at Drift in Nov 23 by @reuben-veal.bsky.social

The popular Steppe Grey Shrike has relocated to coastal fields a few hundred m north of Gunwalloe Marsh. It gave fabulous views this morning (30th October) in the field adjacent to Pedn Gwinian lay-by. This is the second record for Cornwall and approx 30th for the UK. #cornwallbirding #birding

Baikal Teal still today but please note the Swannery Grounds are now closed for the winter (a little earlier than planned). The Swannery embayment now only viewable from usual rights of way. Probably best viewed from tank traps but note there is no access along the beach beyond the fence there…
