The people who cover politics cover the sport of politics as distinct from government. To them a very successful political influencer *is* more important than a state legislator. They’ve heard of him before. (Because this is bluesky so it helps to be explicit — this is bad)

The vague term "political violence" is used specifically bc of its elasticity. It can be contorted to include a murder (despite the motive and perpetrator being unknown), property damage (committed for life-preserving reasons), or protesters using signs as shields when they are attacked by police.

The gyre is widening, all around us. Exhortations on here to “not celebrate this” are dreams of a simpler time, and fantasies of control. If only we lived in that time! If only we could create movements and effective message discipline from our social media accounts!

I haven’t done the work on the practicalities of political violence so can’t speak to that. But “always immoral” is clearly wrong.
