My Orinoco backpack arrived a few days ago, and I love how accurate he looks! It was such a good deal off ebay too. Only $70 or so dollars with free shipping + two 70s badges!!! Wombles merch is a nightmare to ship to Australia because shipping's usually around $20 AUD, so this was a steal!

The Wombles first aired on 5 February 1973. The series was based on the books written by Elizabeth Beresford, about a secretive group of creatures who live beneath Wimbledon Common, collecting and recycling the litter left behind by the "everyday folk".

Don't quite get why the updated Madame Cholet of the Wombles looks the way she does... Like, on one hand I think they're trying to make her look younger and more modern or something, but on the other hand they also somehow managed to make her even more of a French stereotype

You know what's a really complex, unique and beautiful piece from a song? The oboe/clarinet melody line from The Wombles. It's bluesy chromatics and pedal points. It ambles lazily around, never really doing much, perfectly captures the spirit of the characters in the animated show. Just brilliant.
