Not a day passes where I don't wonder if having tiny little computers in our pockets is, actually, bad. Computers used to have their own rooms. Their own furniture. Their own allocated time in the day. They remember. It's only a matter of time before they act.

so what you're saying,
@yarnspinner.dev
, is that you just prototyped for your entire userbase a procedural, card-based narrative system that we can steal however we like

Happy Trans Day of Visibility!!! Please remember to advocate for trans people at home and abroad! Trans rights are being rolled back everywhere we turn - especially with the dire anti-trans bill which was just today, on TDOV, passed in India!

Love the historical perspective and the way Jim hints at a bigger conversation: I think it's high time cutting-edge graphic tech analyses focus less on shadow quality and more on interrogating whether a game striving for photorealism is an effective aesthetic choice

most of the time you don’t want true randomness and/or simulation in a game. you think you do but you’re wrong and will get mad at us if you get it.

people say they want narrative games to have a lot of choice but the bigger the choice the less it matters. if you can choose to kill a character then every other world state has to scope for a scenario where that char doesn't exist. even alive they can never meaningfully impact the story again

so this is part of why i'm doomerish about video games as a viable broadly mainstream industry: the console space is becoming a luxury pastime, which also means the barrier for new entrants becomes almost impassable - what person who isn't confident they'll play games will buy this to try one out?
