The political situation in the UK is actually triggering a lot of MH issues for me right now. My brain doesn't enjoy the idea of the future at the best of times, but in my head there absolutely isn't one now.

The reason I'm being so annoying about fixing this TV is that I feel worthless every day and fixing it might make me feel like I achieved something.

I think my main issue is that I feel useless. I'm not really an expert in anything, I'm highly replaceable, and I feel like my existence is barely acknowledged most of the time. All of that feels worse when you spend your days writing things people are meant to read.

Feel like I need to reclaim my life a little and do a bit of reinventing. I don't remotely feel in control of anything and I need to find a solution.

Update on this wee CRT: I've ordered a new HOT to see if the new whine symptom is related. It's definitely something in line with the transistor, as the noise stopped upon removing it, but it could be any number of other components causing the issue, I guess.

I have ordered a replacement transistor, as at this stage I'm just getting enjoyment messing about.

I know no one cares about my CRT nonsense, but I swapped out the deflector IC on the TV I'm working on and now it's making a high pitched sound. This specific area's heatsink (not the same IC) is also getting phenomenally hot.

That moment when you realise you don't have a drop of thermal paste in the house to fit the IC you've been waiting on for a CRT repair.

Just noticed a lot of the diodes in the CRT I'm fixing have orange marks on the legs. Is this damage?

CRT thoughts: If extracting an IC that should deal with supplying the flyback makes no changes to the symptoms or causes any others, could it be that the IC is dead and that's why the issues exist in the first place?
