The rightwing government are coordinating their message to escalate political tensions by openly lying about their political opponents and the media is amplifying and aiding that message. This is a political strategy and is only different from current US fascist strategy as a matter of intensity.

Okay, how about we pull an actual New Zealand and say that the person who smashed the window is a cowardly idiot and the person who immediately places blame on "radical left" for this is an American-fascism supporting idiot.

What I'd say to the 65,000 unemployed young people in NZ is... move, and compete harder against the other 340,000 people wanting work or more work. Hell, there are 20,000 job vacancies out there! Nevermind that most of them are wholly unsuited to you. Try harder, bottom-feeders.

Unemployment has increased by 50,000 since he’s been Prime Minister. That’s 50,000 families affected. Luxon is just giving up his responsibility as Prime Minister for his citizens - to look tough against people who are trying their best. Where are the jobs?

Someone asked me yesterday for data comparing jobseeker recipients to job vacancies across the country. There are limitations to the job ad data (from trademe), but as a rough estimate, here you go... Our Hunger Games labour market has crazy odds in some places ay? A few more reckons... [🧵 1/n]

Meanwhile, C&R's foolproof policy strategy is to promise weekly rubbish collections while also having "lower rates". Surely some magic is brewing from C&R, or their fiscal management is as inept as the coalition govt's.

Three major crashes today on roads where the current NZ govt *increased* the speed limit (previously lowered for safety reasons) in pursuit of "productivity"? Serious injuries. Lengthy closures. Costly disruptions to lives, whānau, the transport network, our health system. This is not productive. 😞

This is unfortunate. The minister here is ill advised. It isn’t weird. It’s rational, it’s about forever costs and forever inefficiencies. IT’S ABOUT PRODUCTIVITY. Sprawlier cities are lower productivity, w higher ongoing public & private costs. eg traffic congestion. More spread = more driving.
