Just to be clear, trickle down/neoliberal economics is designed that the rich get richer while doing nothing, and the poor get poorer while doing more and more

The discipline of distinguishing Hinduism, which filled that arena with legitimate joy, from Hindutva, the political production that harvested it. A multiculturalism worthy of the name, 1 that engages minority communities as internally plural & politically alive, with their own struggles over power.

OPINION: Narendra Modi is coming to Auckland, and with him comes a word most New Zealanders have had no reason to learn: Hindutva, writes Mohan Dutta.

there is something in New Zealand Brain that cannot think seriously about transit while kiwis argue about bus lanes, over in North America (famously horrible at transit) Montréal built the REM, a new train network with 26 stations supplementing an already-great subway. Took ~10 yrs, nearly done

Logically, populists in the true sense of the word, parties like NZF, should be wildly into this too, instead they fight for its reverse, corporate asset stripping of the public realm, and further enrichment of the already rich, go figure.

Sometimes you see something cool, and you want it for yourself. Inspired by Anthony Castrio's nyc-cartogram, I made an Auckland version: drop a pin and the city is redrawn by public-transport travel time instead of distance, with a couple more modes and a few extra features.

That's great but can we have some vision for *more* PT so that people can take advantage of this: more frequent services, more routes, more under-used railways revitalised, any light rail at all Becoming a broken record but cheap fares don't replace cars if there's no usable PT in the first place

Hindutva links with prominent Indian NZers have been pointed out to Labour over and over again they do not care because a lot of Indians vote for them and support Modi. Unless other Hindu Indians point it out to them and threaten their votes it’s not gonna make a difference.

Capturing this "for the record", esp. as I haven’t seen anything about it elsewhere. The National party fairly quickly deleted their post. On the face of it, deleting the post tacitly admits they made a false claim.

“it's difficult to find the money to be able to reverse stuff.” ---- Well, here's a starting point. There are currently no higher tax bands for people being paid more than $180,000 per year. There could be another rate for people earning $140,000 per year. Source:

Terrible report out from the ghouls at TPU today - including this blatant lie. Remember, if Govt run a budget surplus of $84bn, the private sector by definition has to lose $84bn in savings ($ or Govt Bonds). Equating a Govt surplus with extra money in household budgets is off-the-chart misleading.

Golly gosh. A real shame this bill is being pushed through under budget urgency because automated decision-making regimes like this should be subjected to close and sceptical scrutiny in select committee — with experts and the public able to make submissions on this dramatic administrative turn.
