Had to witness this for myself – it’s real, and even worse as seen from the footpath. (Context: these narrow back-streets had a community-supported 30kmh speed limit… but in mid-2025, were forcibly reverted to 50kmh by the current govt.) Dangerous, petty, ridiculous kneejerk vice-signalling, ugh.

Auckland Council votes to withdraw PC78 and move forward with PC120. Vote was 18 in favour, 5 against. (Against: Fletcher, Lee, K Turner, Walket, Watson).

There is also nothing on record that shows that Fletcher put up an amendment to add in flooding concerns to PC78 in the 2022 vote and indeed she abstained on the whole thing.

This is a big factor for me, alongside desperate need for urgent action on reducing flood risks, in considering PC78 versus PC120. One of these options is better than the other on reducing emissions (which is also action on climate shocks like extreme weather too so helps address flooding too!)

To ask FOUR HOURS INTO the meeting why isn't the Minister here is pretty cute from Fletcher imho. She claimed at a residents association meeting a few weeks ago that she hadn't talked to him about any of this, although had sent letters. They were literally on the same CRL test train in August.🤷

Turner is basically just doing the opposite of Henderson, he does this a lot. Says he was undecided or might have supported then once he hears Shane speak (sometimes me too) he goes the other way. Usually based on some misunderstanding/misrepresentation. Sigh

Yes there is a strong alignment here. People who don't have a positive vision for the future of our city, hark back to a past that never really existed anyway.

Well thats a wrap. I am so glad people were able to grandstand after spreading misinfo for weeks before this in order to try drum up votes in the election. All I would say, is vote for people who actually care about solving problems, and not just complaining

Auckland election turnout currently at 6% (pretty sure that's excluding special votes). Tomorrow would have been the first day people could have started voting in previous years (as smaller voting period), so I reckon we are very likely to see higher turnout this election!

I love when an incumbent councillor, who afaik has achieved basically nothing to improve housing affordability, claims the 'Woke Left' is selling out to developers and neoliberalism. If only someone had written a thesis on neoliberalism and housing say, for their Masters degree?

It was fantastic to attend the Ngāti Whātua commemoration of the 185th anniversary of the founding of Auckland/Tāmaki. 18th September 1840 Apahai te Kawai gifted 3000 acres of what is now downtown Auckland to Governor Hobson. Can you imagine a better city foundation than a gift between cultures?

I'm at Puketāpapa Local Board and C&R are voting against decreasing congestion by expanding T3 and bus lanes. Claiming that a small loss of on street carparking for a few businesses is more important that travel time improvements of 3 minutes plus per bus passenger. C&R did same at Albert-Eden.
