The feverish witch-hunting atmosphere in the US over criticism of Kirk reminds me of what happened when King Shaka's mum, the Great She-Elephant, died - Zulus started accusing each other of insufficient grief, ending up with thousands slaughtered. Entire nations can indeed go bonkers.
