Building a more inclusive, climate-resilient Tshwane. Over the next year, Executive Mayor Dr. Nasiphi Moya has pledged to revitalise vulnerable areas through tree planting, clean-up drives and urban greening to build a safer, cooler Tshwane. #WMS25

Santiago is planting seeds of climate resilience. Governor of the Metropolitan Region of Santiago de Chile, Claudio Benjamin Orrego, has committed to transforming urban spaces with 33 new pocket forests, bringing natural cooling and cleaner air to neighbourhoods that need it most. #WMS25

Hope or despair? That’s the choice facing the world at COP30 in Brazil. On the final day of the @c40cities.bsky.social World Mayor’s Summit, local leaders made it clear where we stand.

Amman is accelerating green transport and smart waste management. His Excellency, Dr. Yousef Al-Shawarbeh, Mayor of Amman has pledged to add new zero-emission buses and expand city-wide waste separation systems to create a greener, more circular economy. #WMS25

Nanjing is building a future that’s both green and resilient. The city has pledged that every new building that's part of its Sponge City project will meet green standards to make the city more resilient to climate risks. #WMS25

Barcelona is investing directly in community climate resilience. Mayor http://jaumecollboni.bsky.social/ has pledged to use tourist tax to protect some of the city's most vulnerable residents from extreme heat, for example by installing solar panels and cooling systems in schools. #WMS25

The climate crisis is the biggest challenge of our time, but sophisticated disinformation campaigns are threatening the ability of local leaders to respond. At C40's World Mayors Summit, mayors from around the world discussed how we can tackle disinformation and protect progress.

Quito pledges bold climate action. Mayor Pabel Muñoz has pledged to plant 100,000 native trees, build new water treatment facilities and introduce electric buses to make Quito a greener city. #WMS25

Dalian is building a safer, cleaner future. The city has pledged to replace over 1,000 buses with electric models and launch a new climate protection plan to fight pollution and improve livability. #WMS25

Shenzhen is scaling up action on air quality. The city has committed to expanding the city's new energy vehicle fleet from 1.44 million to over 1.7 million by 2026. This will reduce pollution and improve air quality for all residents. #WMS25

“Cities and regions will keep leading the way forward.” - @michaelrbloomberg.bsky.social Over 3 days of #WMS25, 300+ mayors reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to fighting the climate crisis & made it clear that real on-the-ground solutions are essential to protect the people and places we love.

At the city-business roundtable, @mark--watts.bsky.social and María Mendiluce @wemeanbusiness.bsky.social spoke to how local partnerships can lead to real progress. The mayors of Tshwane and Oslo shared how working with businesses drives tangible results in the places where people live and work.

“We do this for our today, we do this for our tomorrow, and we will do this together.” Youth activists from London, Freetown, and Vanuatu shared this message at #WMS25, spotlighting their work with cities and mayors to deliver powerful climate action on the ground.

Buenos Aires is charging ahead with clean transport. Chief of Government Jorge Macri has committed to introducing a zero-emission electric corridor, cutting travel time by 40% for 50,000 daily commuters. #WMS25

Interactive displays showcasing projects in C40 cities are highlighting the tangible progress being made on clean energy, urban design, and air quality. Among them was Breathe Cities: an initiative supporting cities around the world to cut their air pollution and climate emissions.

A new partnership will help 50 Brazilian cities deliver 20+ climate projects on sustainable transport & low-methane waste by 2027. National partners will lead this initiative with support from @bloombergdotorg.bsky.social, C40 Cities, @mayors4climate.bsky.social &Brazil's National Front of Mayors.

The @ec.europa.eu announced today that the EU has officially endorsed CHAMP – the Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships. The EU’s commitment adds significant momentum to the role of local & subnational actors to deliver climate action ahead of #COP30 in Belém.

Cape Town pledges to scale up its clean energy. Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has committed to commissioning the city's first-owned solar plant and adding battery energy storage, securing clean, affordable energy for thousands of homes. #WMS25

Melbourne is accelerating its climate action. As part of C40 and GCOM's yearly offer of action, Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece has committed to investing AUD $44.3 million to create new green spaces and plant thousands of trees, cooling the city and improving liveability. #WMS25

Mayors are taking bold action. Governing Mayor of Oslo Eirik Lae Solberg has committed to pioneering clean construction city-wide, cutting emissions from machinery and building materials. #WMS25

Milan is stepping up on its climate plans. Mayor Giuseppe Sala has committed to reinforcing the EU’s largest Low Emission Zone and launching new community solar projects to build a cleaner, healthier city. #WMS25

As part of the CHAMP initiative, 77 countries are now working with their cities and regions to strengthen national climate plans. Alongside Brazil’s Minister of Cities, Jader Filho, and Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, leaders emphasised the importance of multi-level cooperation at #WMS25 today.

Cities are delivering climate action. Commissioner of Mumbai Bhushan Gagrani has committed to improving air quality and transport. By 2026, nearly 85% of the public bus fleet will be zero-emission, serving four million daily passengers. #WMS25

Mayors are united in taking climate action. Mayor of Fortaleza, Evandro Leitão is tackling waste by pledging to install biodigesters in schools and expanding sustainable systems at street markets, turning food scraps into climate progress. #WMS25

"Taking care of food is taking care of people" -Mayor of Curitiba At #WMS25 mayors across the Global South have committed to transforming their food systems by 2035. By joining the Thriving Food Systems Accelerator, they pledge to tackle hunger & ensure access to healthy, sustainable food for all.

Yesterday, UN Assistant General Secretary Selwin Hart backed our call for cities to have a formal space in the COP process. Mayors are at the heart of helping climate talks go from negotiation to action, and we are delighted to have his support for this being agreed at COP30 in Belém. #WMS25
