Two other things: 1) This is also why the Berlin U-Bahn is peak station design: go down one flight of stairs and you’re on the platform. 2) Great Society Metros can get away with deeper stations because the longer distance traveled means the time penalty of going up and down stairs isn’t so acute.

I may draw a lot of fantasy *train* maps but I’m ultimately a bus stan. I’d rather have a good high-frequency bus grid than one or two less frequent LRT lines that are mostly there for the novelty. This is why.

Speaking of Metra, if I had to guess the new line is either the extension to Rockford or (less likely) the SouthEast Service to Crete. I think the Milwaukee extension is too early in planning at this point and Kankakee is a state-mandated wishlist item.

There’s some stuff I’m not a fan of with Metra’s new wayfinding standard, but the countdown clocks are pretty good.

Good news: Today is opening day for first new transit line to open in #Toronto in a decade. The Finch West LRT has 18 stops, runs 11 kms. Bad: It was expensive, and it's actually slower than the buses that served the route before. That's not a great look for new rail transit projects in Canada.

Seattle’s Link light rail system expanded to the south by three new stations today, now reaching Federal Way! The 8-mile project follows I-5 on an elevated & at-grade alignment, and cost $2.5 billion to build. Link 1 Line is now 41 miles long.

This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.
