The conversation with my closest Catholic mate has turned from “OK but why was the schism so harsh” into “do you think the pope wears fluffy slippers” and we’ve agreed he does. The debate about whether he’s a PJ or nightshirt guy is ongoing.

Ok so if the Pope has excommunicated SSPX because they’re antisemitic/Nazis who have crossed a line, does that mean this schism counts as punching Nazis? But with fancy, embroidered robes instead of glitter?

My Catholics friends would be bemused by how into this schism I am if they weren’t also my nerd-out-about-medieval-history friends (and one of them has started attending a charismatic church for the lols; I like to think we’re having a field trip to each other’s religious upbringings).
