I do think this is a win. Like it's not the end of fascism in America but it's a nice reminder that as much as this admin and its corporate collaborators love to pretend to have strength and control, they will quickly back down with even the smallest bit of community coordination and pushback.

I’ve never much been interested in categorizing, critics can waste time on that. But I’m now totally convinced that The Return is a movie. The way the audience engaged with it felt exactly right and changed the experience.

Seeing all of TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN on screen at the Egyptian was the most impactful viewing I’ve had since my first watch. And everything about it, picture and sound, was superior to seeing it at home. It was a revelation.

Just finished Part 8 and it was incredible. I’ve seen this one projected a couple times but always from the Blu-ray. This looked and sounded dramatically better.

Day two.

Twin Peaks: The Return on the Egyptian’s big screen is a revelation. Seeing it in 4k for the first time. But the deeply textured sound mix is the most impressive thing. So much of what just sounds like silence at home has a subtle audio atmosphere that changes the feeling of whole scenes.

At the Egyptian.

They just tear-gassed us. They tried to run us over in a van holding a peaceful protester. They shot us with pepper balls. They dragged another protester into the facility.

John Byrne made a lot of great comics but this wasn’t one of them. I have no problem with creators taking different approaches to characters — they should. But this was so conventional. And some stuff didn’t play well even by 2006 terms. Skeleton Negative Man was neat though.
