Anyone else going to the AMSP #ALevelMaths problem solving conference at the NCVO in London today?

Anyone know of any resources for the new Edexcel Extended Maths Certificate please? My son is sitting it and as it’s new we can’t find much - except on Twinkl (well done @mrmattock.bsky.social )!

It seems that @casiojapan.bsky.social have changed their calculator again, just when we'd almost got used to the new one, and loads of kids have them. Now there is another different model to deal with - apparently the S-D key is back! Not fair.

Big Q: my HoD is worried that given the #edexcel grade boundary hike last yr (esp at G6) more schs might put more kids in for F rather than H, and this will hike grade boundaries yet again. He is considering moving to #AQA. I know it should be fair, but poss isn’t? Thoughts please! #mathstoday

In #mathstoday I discovered that the @cambridgeocr.bsky.social Add Maths FSMQ and paper 2 of @aqaeducation.bsky.social L2 Further Maths are both pm of June 15th, with Physics GCSE in the morning. Now I know not many candidates will sit both but surely there will be some? Seems like poor planning!

In #ALevelMaths today we looked at why inverse matrices work, which I am very happy about. I haven’t taught this before and was getting cross at the seemingly random stuff to learn! I didn’t do matrices until my degree and that was a loooong time ago. #MathsToday

I read a great blog the other day, presumably recent as I found it through a weekly digest. It talked about breaking down tricky topics and used the hormones in the menstrual cycle as an example. Now I can't find it - any ideas please? My son is studying this and there was a great diagram! Thnx

In #MathsToday I worked with some amazing Maths and Science teachers on @ncetm.bsky.social Coherence workgroup, and learned about Shift-Exe (as we are now calling it) on the new Casio calc thanks to @cclay8.bsky.social It's a game changer, esp for Science where they want answers as decimals

#ALevelMaths anyone use Numworks calc @numworks.bsky.social ? It seems to be able to work out nCr for negatives and fractions. How? Presumably by using (n(n-1))/2! etc? But it seems wrong to use the nCr notation?

If I had to pick out one paragraph to vehemently agree with it would possibly be "The development of maths within students cannot and should not be laid exclusively at the feet of the maths teacher, and much like the now widely accepted approach that all teachers are responsible for literacy, [...]

Very refreshing to see something like this being written by a geography teacher. There's a lot here of relevance to teachers of _any_ subject in schools, and also do educators beyond formal learning including, yes, #museums and #galleries. 🏛️🎓
