...FYI several ppl commented that The Economist doesn't name authors for many articles. which seems fine if it's a short news summary, but not in the case where it's one writer's interpretation of a study. especially when the interpretation is 180º different from the researchers' own conclusions!

...apparently he tweeted about it several days ago. it seems weird that The Economist purposely hid his name from readers. unless of course they knew that readers might already be aware of Jəsse's long history of bias on this issue...

...this 🧵 has blown up & I'm no longer able to keep up w/replies. but to reiterate: I didn't originally know, but now know, that Economist doesn't do author bylines. while that may be their policy, it's a bad one! especially in cases like this where it leaves out crucial context (see last paragraph)

...knowing Jəsse's the author (& that gender-affirming care practitioners are well aware of his biases & tactics) utterly changes the meaning of the last paragraph. without attribution, it makes it sound like the authors are suspiciously dodging the question. in actuality they know he's a bad actor!

so the Economist article isn't attributed an author. but someone in the replies of this 🧵 tipped me off that it was Jəsse Singal. & it turns out that it was, which in retrospect isn't surprising (as he's one of the ppl who would never answer this question):
