Since 1980, under the Thatcherite policies, 2.8m social homes sold, 1.9m in England for ÂŁ51bn. In 2024, England homes were worth ÂŁ430bn. Councils didn't receive full sales proceeds, couldn't replenish housing stock. Vital depts closed. Social homes down from 6.8m to 5.4m. Huge housing crisis.
