As someone who spent 10 years in financial services, I want to reaffirm that a 50-year mortgage is a great idea. It allows the bank an extra 20 years to make gobs of money in interest, and for the homeowner to avoid any semblance of equity while also increasing maintenance costs. It's a win-win!
