So, the answer is the flimsy plot stringing the action together basically doesn't exist lmao. Rosalina bookends the whole movie, but this movie is so committed to not being about anything that it's kind of impressive.

I thought the original Mario movie was pretty bad, but still enjoyed it as a series of animated setpieces strung together by a flimsy plot. I wonder how I'll walk away from Mario Galaxy with these expectations in mind.
