Great piece by Jodie Yettram, full of research and investigation to try and answer this question. Seems to me it's a mixture of compounding factors, with housing at the top, that are driving the young away and keeping them from returning. Jersey's becoming a very dull island with less young in it.

During the COVID-19 pandemic "following public health guidance” often became a euphemism for ignoring occupational hygiene science and good practice, and for not complying with health and safety obligations towards employees.

It's devastating that doctors who are 2 years into their medical career are saying they're "needing a break from the training environment" & "seeking to improve health & wellbeing". 1 doctor dies by suicide every 3 weeks. This is truly tragic & reflects the state of education & practice right now.

In my years, I've managed plenty of mergers that included rebranding. Only once have I seen a rebrand improve brand recognition or impact, and that was a 100% internal exercise that didn't involve branding consultants. I think Jaguar have paid branding consultants.

Imagine sitting down for a drink or a meal with people whose company you enjoyed & being told by management that half of the table would be now occupied by people who just wanted to shout ‘C**t’ at you. The exodus has absolutely nothing to do with ‘opinions’. Media reports must reflect this more.

The other thing (I’ve said it 1000 times) is that X is a business & our attention/content is currency. If I learned that eg a clothing brand I’d always liked was now using slave labour & dumping toxic waste in the sea, I wouldn’t continue to buy their product. We have that choice.

Bluesky does feel like the X-killer. Mastodon was too established a community, and impenetrable for most. Threads was shiny but nothing of substance ever happened. Reddit was like MedTwitter for nihilists. This feels, for lack of a better description, like OG Twitter.

I would love to tell you about the times vaccines prevented me from getting sick, but every time it happens, I don’t notice. I just keep feeling well. Neither do you. Public health, when it’s working, is invisible.
