“Kavanaugh stop” is a great phrase. Evocative, critical, memorable, and on point. The internet tells me the term was coined and popularized by
@akalhan.bsky.social
and
@sifill.bsky.social
. A big hat tip to them.

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

In tonight's episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver the most devastating indictments against Bari Weiss came from Bari Weiss. She is a laughably ridiculous popinjay, a pseudo-intellectual who believes her own marketing. No one could ever be as damaging to her... brand? as are her own words.

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.

they throw themselves at it to convince libs not to support it, which is the only thing that makes it impossible: the liberal "establishment" working against it to maintain their own power. if nobody gives a shit what they say & ignores the fearmongering & scapegoating then its just popular politics

You cannot reason with a fascist. You can’t endear yourself to a fascist. They will turn on everyone, including their own family, their allies, their sycophants and collaborators. Fascists hate themselves and they hate the world. This doesn’t stop unless it is stopped.

I think the Dem governors and mayors can and should do more, legally and nonviolently. some ideas off the top of my head - order DOT to close roads near ICE facilities - conduct routine power and water maintenance to facilities - mire them in endless legal knots - refuse any support whatsoever

I just did an in-depth review of the research and could not find a single paper that showed any positive effects from conversion therapy. And the negative effects are incredibly terrible and numerous. There's absolutely no reason to permit anyone to practice this, even if it's "consensual."
