They seem somehow extra-desperate to save the NWF, right? I wonder why. I do bet they plan on letting the rouble weaken and *then* selling gold and yuan. Iirc they let it go to ~110/$ during their December 2024 sale.

Should people who have served in the Russian army after 2014 or 2022 be allowed in Europe? Guys say “hell no!” of course. But… Not being free to visit Paris or Berlin may be mildly annoying for some and even a problem for some professionals, but I fail to see a systemic interest. Yet

Neither Russian refineries nor the Russian military industry seem to be prepared for a war against an opponent with real long-range strike capabilities. Changing this will be very expensive and time-consuming for Moscow.

If you plot all successful “Flamingo” strikes in 2026 on a map a pattern emerges. All 7 targets were located along the rivers of the Volga and Kama. River channels effectively provide a “free” way to avoid dealing with terrain elevation and route planning for low-altitude flight.

Oopsie, if that goes further like this, then Mordor has an issue with the budget. I think the yearly budget deficit is not only 75bn (as up to date) but it will be rather 150bn - maybe even more as the economy might go into a free fall when the gasoline and diesel shortage goes on for longer.

Trading Economics: "Brent fell toward $76 per barrel on Wednesday". Russian oil even cheaper. Russian oil tax revenues will arrive at the end of July and for June *average* performance. If things continue as they are, July performance will drop and Russia's windfall would end with August income.

Wow! No fuel in Crimea anymore - this is pretty significant, because it can cause hoarding in other regions, worsening the shortages. A ban on gasoline sales on this scale has never happened before in Russia (NB: Crimea is Ukraine).

I want to point something out. This is the real price of gasoline in Moscow because it's from a gas station chain that can't operate at a loss, has to buy fuel on the open wholesale market and doesn't have a back channel directly to the government.
