This seems right - Bari Weiss works for the Ellisons, not for Trump. In general, I think a weakness of a lot of analysis of this political movement is that it treats Trump and MAGA (and their equivalents elsewhere) as principals rather than agents.

This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal:

When I was just about of drinking age one of the less salubrious nightclubs in town was called "Quids Inn". It cost a quid to get in. They had actual turnstiles with a coin slot at the entrance. Them were the days.

In spirit, content and intent, this was really no different to a Klan rally. The exception being the wholesale absence of outrage in mainstream media. This period of history will be an indictment on those standing silent, as much as the monster himself.

Tell Dublin it is no longer a suitable venue for international shindigs. Publicly state why. If Ireland wants to sit at the big boy table it needs to pay a big boy ante. Will this work. Frankly I'm doubtful. But it would at least strip away some of the hypocrisy about Irish neutrality. /Fin

It may sound radical, but if one guy has so much wealth and power that he can use the large newspaper he owns to publicly threaten to ruin a service we all rely on, presumably as a bargaining tactic to get lower rates, we probably need to tax that guy until he can't do that anymore.

The right wing press will not cover allegations about Farage's anti-Semitism in the way they covered Corbyn's because they were never interested in the actual racism. It was all about politics. But broadcasters have obligations under impartiality rules. They have no excuses.

This is the kind of thing you would do if you had no idea how to achieve economic growth. It's a stunningly stupid move but only one of many that the government has been making over the last 10 months or so. All those years in opposition and they have no idea what to do while in office. Shameful
