I refuse to get used to this. That all Republican elected officials have done so should never, ever be forgotten or forgiven. At the very least, they must never be allowed to opine about decorum in any context again.

The biggest and most disruptive change proposed by the OMB would be to require senior political appointees to review every grant before it is awarded, blocking awards that “promote anti-American values," challenge binary views of sex, or otherwise don't align with the administration's values. 4/n

1/ This is awful for so, so many reasons. Just to pick one: even if you thought it was lawful and appropriate to vet funded research for consistency with the government's priorities, *the president is not the government*.

Nothing says “restoring trust in public health” more than having a right-wing economist who has never practiced medicine in charge of the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control. You can really tell he has literally never treated a single patient or a single infectious disease.

The story of the United States in the past decade is that the most materially comfortable society in the history of the world, out of sheer boredom, subscribed to conspiracy theories that told them to take a sledgehammer to the foundations of modernity.

Today is a reminder that except for a brief period running roughly from Brown v. Board to Roe v. Wade, throughout its history the Supreme Court has been a reactionary force protecting the wealth of the wealthy and the power of the powerful, almost always hostile to equality and justice.
