This guy turned up on my local canal a few weeks ago. He seems to hang out alone although I think I've seen him with our regular mallards at least once. The internet is telling me he's possibly a muscovy duck which seems VERY unlikely #birdsky #birds

A male rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) in winter plumage. Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word. A bird forever warning people: "A werewolf!" (just in case of werewolves).

Have camped in Buxton *summer* weather, every morning in the shower queue there would be people chatting about when they could reasonably leave without ruining their children's holiday completely. Also quite distressingly it was so windy a squirrel's nest blew out of a tree as we walked in the park
