Overground, Underground I'm also searching for locations where you can view trains crossing over each other the logical way. At the end of the platform at North Acton tube station, you can view the Overground travelling 'over' the London Underground trains.

So there's a special view from Canons Park Underground Station where you can capture trains framed by the distant Arch of Wembley Stadium. I was so pleased with the outcome that I made the photo the front cover of the Tube Mapper project 2026 calendar

THE MAIL RAIL - THE SMALL LONDON UNDERGROUND I had a lovely time exploring the small tunnels of the Mail Rail in London. The Mail Rail was an underground, driverless electric railway that ran from 1927 to 2003 to transport mail between sorting offices.

OCT / KENNINGTON Photography from my 2026 Calendar A ghost train arrives! On this platform travellers have a clear view of trains deep in the tunnel whilst standing well behind the yellow line. I timed the shot as the train passed the light in the tunnel making it look spooky!

Someone said to me "I thought that was a figure standing in the middle of the first photo at the bottom. Mind you, a very tall figure with baggy pants and a mullet 🫣" Can you see it?

Looking back at this futuristic looking scene when I visited the Glasgow Subway in Scotland a year ago. The sci fi looking Stadler trains arrive and depart from the green platform at Cowcaddens Station. The Glasgow Subway is the 3rd oldest underground railway in the world.

Rollercoaster Ride - Beckton Park I love how this photo looks like the beginning of a funfair rollercoaster ride. I timed the shot to get the new B23 Docklands Light Railway train next to the older model. So I could have called this pic, "out with the old, in with the new!"

JUN / BROCKLEY Photography from my 2026 Calendar  I took pictures of trains passing through the station from the platform bridge. After a while, I realised I'd captured trains on every track, so I thought it'd be visually interesting to make a composite photo of the encounter.

Fun Fact: The "Firestarter" music video was filmed in an abandoned London Underground tunnel at Aldwych station.

A Portrait - Nine Elms A random quick portrait of me taken by Andreya. This scene is one of my favourite visual sights to enjoy on the tube network, if you visit Nine Elms station at the right time on a sunny day you'll be rewarded with these spectacular shadows & projections.

I was in hysterics in the supermarket this morning. Surely this is not what The Prodigy were singing about!

Things that make this photographer happy part five... Finding Animals On The London Underground Network

These look so good together! So I recently had a client order lots of my prints small, framed & signed. These were 7x5 prints, & used as a gift for work colleagues attending a global meeting,so as a celebration of London Perhaps I should offer a package like this on my website?

Let's end the week with this photo of dancer Andreya in the beautifully restored Grade II listed Crystal Palace Subway. It was designed by Charles Barry Jr & first opened in 1865. The subway provided a direct access to the Crystal Palace for first-class rail passengers

APR / BARBICAN Photography from my 2026 Calendar    I've always loved the blue and yellow arch at Barbican station. So I invited dancer Andreya to interact with the architectural curves.

Tight Squeeze As I just happened to be passing through Hendon Central Underground station, I couldn't resist capturing a train departing into one of the tight tunnels that are viewable at the end of the platform. It always amazes me that the trains fit 😅

I had a lovely time exploring the small tunnels of the mail rail at the Postal Museum.

Entrance - Shadwell I can't believe I've ignored this entrance to Shadwell Docklands Light Railway station for so long. It's a great subject for a rainy day. I must revisit next time I'm puddle hunting and will capture this with my ultrawide lens so I can reflect the whole arch

UNBOXING THE NEW SIRUI 35MM 1.4 So I rarely talk about camera gear on here, but I was recently sent this new lens by Sirui for my Sony Mirrorless camera. A 35mm is great for street photography, so I'm very excited to use this lens to capture images for my Tube Mapper project.

So the answer to the most important question is yes, you can still pretend to drive the DLR. However it's a little taller than the previous model so some kids may need a lap for a boost!

Stamping Time! My wife convinced me to buy a stamp years ago & I love using it. She always laughs about how loud I stamp envelopes when packaging books & calendars. Very satisfying 😀

Inside The New DLR Train I love that the carriages are joined on the new Docklands Light Railway trains, meaning that you can now walk the entire length of the train. This angle makes it look futuristic! Taken at Woolwich Arsenal DLR Station.

There's a very useful connection between Waterloo East Railway station and Southwark Underground station. However every time I walk between stations, it feels like I'm going through border control.
