Good News Friday: The Grade II* listed Scargill House Chapel by George Pace (1958-61), located near Kettlewell in Yorkshire Dales National Park, draws inspiration from rural field barns and Scandinavian stave churches. It also has one our favourite twentieth century bird tables, recently restored!

Norwich’s 1950s Neo-Georgian former Debenhams spared demolition

#OTD 30 years ago - 19 June 1996, a former gasworks site on the north of Greenwich Peninsula was selected by the Millennium Commission as location of the Millennium Exhibition. The NEC Birmingham, Pride Park in Derby and Bromley-by-Bow in East London were the other locations on the final short list.

Remembering the influential British artist and teacher Tess Jaray (1937-2026), who died last month aged 88. Between 1985 and 2000 Jaray devoted much of her time to working on public commissions, applying her understanding of architectural space and pattern to large-scale projects in public spaces.

NEWS: An intriguing update on one of the cases from C20’s most recent Risk List, the East Stand at St James' Park by FaulknerBrowns (1973). Newcastle United have announced that they have completed the 'strategic purchase' of the historic Grade I Leazes Terrace (1829-34) next to St James' Park.

🎈Happy 60th Birthday to Centre Point, opened #OTD in 1966. Seifert's Grade II listed modernist tower was described by E.Paolozzi as London's 'first pop art building', but perhaps it's most iconic moment came in Jan 1974 when housing protestors staged an audacious occupation of the empty building.

Good News Friday: Wakefield’s modern Market Hall has been spared demolition and relaunched as Wakefield Exchange (WX) - a new venue for live music, comedy, food, art and events. Completed in 2008, the 4,000-square-metre market was the first public building designed by architect David Adjaye.
