This made me check, and turns out Dolan owns the Chicago Theatre. If he's pulling his shit there, he's already in gross violation of Illinois biometric privacy laws. Time for me to get another class-action check.

One of the problems with this one is the other people in the car with SS Agent George Hickey included Kenneth O'Donnell and David Powers. So they had an AR-15 fired 1 foot away from their ears that they saw blow off their best friend's head and decided to never mention that to anyone.

I've been saying it for years: pro wrestling's growth market isn't casual sportsball fans. It's figure skating fans, gymnastics fans, people who watch soaps, folks who watched Project Runway or Drag Race, folks who get excited about the MET gala. The selling point is exhibition, not competition.

I think another reason many Americans Feel Bad About the Economy: There is a constant barrage of information indicating to the casual observer that people who run scams and lie and refuse to play by the rules aren't just going unpunished, they're *making way more money than you are* as a result.

Can never get over how tawdry the modern Right's view of Western Civilization is; nothing to build, nothing to aspire to, nothing even really to destroy or wage war against, just sullen resentment of their own children and seething hatred of the cities whose economics subsidies their regimes.

if i wasn't so busy i'd probably write a long thread about how it's actually pretty radical in the USA to display state capacity working effectively, so instead you'll just get the jargon version it's so crazy how "do basic government work well" is like, a notable thing you can actually brag about

Yeah I think this is huge. Fuzziness in what made money allowed in depth reporting to be subsidized by sports stuff, more challenging art to be subsidized by crowd pleaser stuff etc etc. Granular data was bad.

Means-testing also makes programs cost more than they would under a universal model, because so much money gets wasted on verification, surveillance, and compliance.

Been thinking about it since I saw JK Rowling posted this yesterday about the IOC's new policy, calling Imane Khelif a man. Imane Khelif was born female. She was raised as a girl. Her original birth certificate says female. She's always been a woman. But sure. "Men punching women."

But now it's crept into "any woman who fails a DNA test is actually a man." They're not protecting women's sports. They're policing womanhood itself.

i think you can make the rube goldberg machine as complicated as you want to but you can't get around the underlying problem: if you reward teams for losing more (which is what all these schemes still do) a bunch of teams are gonna try to lose more.
