NHS managers at (Agenda for Change) bands 6-8a line manage up to 80% of NHS people. These “frontline” leaders have an outsize influence on NHS performance. See eg: bcg.com/publications... by BCG. I'm spending tomorrow with 4 NHS systems seeking ways to unleash the potential of frontline managers .

This is something that we really can really make a difference in primary care. Realistically there just isn't the funding for palliative care to look after all terminal patients. We can't really assume that the patient knows they are dying, we need to tell them. And use the word "dying"

This is a ubiquitous experience amongst emergency physicians. Too often we see patients with evidently terminal diagnoses come to us in extremis and it seems we are the first to actually tell them that they are dying and there is nothing we can do to stop that. It is emotionally exhausting.
