Travel and long distance phone calls were expensive; distance effectively cut people off w/o being so explicit. The difference now is that communication is cheap so cutting them off requires being explicit.

On a long, slightly chilly walk today, I decided to cut through the local mall to warm up and maybe grab a coffee. I forgot that the holiday shopping season is a thing. Many people are shockingly ill and still in a public place. I’m sorry you feel pressured to do that instead of resting at home.
