If you are preparing for Imelda and own a portable generator, make sure your have working carbon monoxide alarms on every level of your home. One portable generator can produce as much carbon monoxide as hundreds of cars. CO is a deadly gas you can't see or smell and can kill within minutes.

Farage’s proposal to create a permanent underclass of migrants has 3% support. *3%*. If ever there was a golden political opportunity for Starmer’s Labour-whose support base let’s not forget is *pro-migration* - this is it. Is this mealy mouthed accountant language the best they can do?

Ofc an even more accurate description would be "the run-down hotels where asylum applicants, a majority of whom will prove to be refugees fleeing persecution, are being dumped with minimal subsistence and no right to work, while the Government takes years deciding a huge backlog of their cases"

"Migrant hotels" is a horrible shorthand. "The hotels where asylum applicants are accommodated" is surely succinct enough while being more factual and thus more neutral. "Migrant" is prejudicial (by not mentioning the asylum case) and starts from the same reason they didn't talk about the origin.

Tried to get my real ID. I had my license, my SS card and my birth certificate. I was not allowed to get my real ID because my birth name is different than my married name. Now I have to go dig up a marriage certificate. You know who wouldn’t have to do this? A man. Never change your last name.

Farage's proposal here would crash the economy. An economy already struggling as a result of Brexit. Not only are the numbers false but it takes rights away from migrants who have lived and worked in the UK for years. Many who have British partners and children born in the UK.

The idea of mass deportation of people who had legally migrated into a country used to be a clear indicator for not only far-right, but far-right extremist policies. This says a lot on both how far Reform has radicalised, and how these kind of ideas are becoming normalised in Western democracies.

Only 1 person in the whole study went from identifying as trans to not identifying as trans. The 1/5 number came from youth going between the binary and non-binary spectrum. This headline and post are misleading on purpose to fit the economist's editorial bent on the political issue.

Retrospectively removing indefinite leave to remain would be immoral and economically damaging. It would tear families apart. Attacking it as ‘potentially illegal’ is completely beside the point. Argue with the (awful) idea. Don’t try ’well, actually you can’t do that’.
