When I was in 2nd grade my dad started a Halloween tradition of reading spooky stories. He started with The Black Cat by Eager Allen Poe. It's part The Raven, part Tell Tale Heart. It's a story where a guy gets jealous of his wife's pets so he axe murders her and all her pets save one black cat.
