I voted in North Carolina for half my adult life. I’m used to my votes being effectively thrown out. Having my actual vote thrown out by the fucking state Supreme Court I swore my oath before when I was admitted to the bar… This cuts differently. And I can’t separate my emotions from logic fully.

I mean, I just assume this is the plan at this point. Plus, hopefully, we’ll have thousands of newly re-enfranchised voters this next go round. We have 3 more constitutional amendments on the ballot this fall. Logically, I know this is a setback, not the end. Emotionally, I’m…not okay.

We still have primaries to start voting in soon. And there are three more very important constitutional amendments in November, one of which might return voting rights to thousands of people here. Incredible progress has been made here in a decade. We have to keep going, Virginia.

This legislature has been around for almost 400 fucking years. Every single procedural trick you could think of has been used here, mostly for great evil - let’s be honest about Virginia’s history here. This is overturning the will of the majority of voters. And also, it’s can-kicking.
